In a traditional organization those on top know they have to balance opinions, needs and resources. Because there is a chain of command their decisions (good or bad) propel the organization into the future (for better or for worse) along very few vectors.. There are aboves and backstabbing belows and across-froms, rectangles all. At any point someone above someone can say "You're idea is full of shit." and shut them down, that's that.
Reddit Corporate is just like a giant sub. They are mod-gods and they decided to array themselves in a circle. And by the miracle of technology they do more typing than talking. So everyone can type at once, and no one is pressed to listen to everything or anything.
These managerial circle-jerks are where cultural erosion creeps up slowly. The person next to you says something a bit off-color, something to which you may object. You do not respond so they turn to the other person next to them. And so on around the circle, the idea becoming more bigoted and twisted at each step.
Eventually the off-color idea has made its way full circlel and comes at you from the other end. But now it is a grotesque monster, something that would have been shut down quickly as counterproductive in a rectilinear organization. But now your only choice is to worship the monster or get out of the game.
That's why Reddit brought 'ever growing consensus' against The_Donald. Because bullies with boorish and bigoted attitudes go unchallenged in these Romper Room Circles.
