I lost any respect I might have had for him during the impeachment trial when he influenced the vote by telling Schumer how he would rule in a hypothetical tie-breaking scenario. It was his interference that undercut McConnell's position in the amendment negotiations and gave Romney the opportunity to cast a vote for conviction. A Justice with integrity would refuse to provide an answer on a matter that wasn't actually before the Court, and that kind of bias can't be tolerated.

Thank you for this. That last part is absolutely key and before I saw your post I was going to ask if the ruling was based on federal vs state, but this makes it clear.

Yeh, but, Roberts is on the Court now, so none of that pesky "Constitution" stuff matters.

Remember, Roberts is so badass, he turned a 2500 page law (The Affordable Care Act) that specifically said it was not a tax, well, he said "Fuck that shit Congress, this is a tax because I said so, stupid little bitches."
