I'm actually trying to start a business that prospects and catalogs asteroids. I do low voltage controls but have wanted to do this my entire life.

That's awesome, man. Good luck!

That's awesome.

Wanted to invest in companies like that. Too bad the only company about planetary resources. Could pay a buck for Thousands of shares. Wish I knew how to do that one.

The only other one I know available is Virgin Galactic.

Going to start a small project on this since I got nothing to do for a while in my free time.

AIspacefactory won the competition to start testing their autonomous building tech for Mars. Pretty cool stuff as they reuse Mars' rocks and corn to create a strong as shit material that they squirt out.

1
Aambrick 1 point ago +1 / -0

I will look into them. First time I heard of them to be honest.

Just looked into them and they seem promising.

I want to see how strong that material of theirs(TERA) is to cosmic radiation. I would like to see results with gamma radiation bombardment testing. If it does well, but needing thicker walls and all it might be a good material to try underground building. If that works it might be used in Nuclear reactor containment units at some point.

2
chingchong_bigdong 2 points ago +2 / -0

ya i think they started off with the idea of making a solid enough material that can be recycled hence the mars sediment + corn conclusion. What you said is also needed if we are to make Mars a reality. Still cool shit though, also none of their structures have any foundation which kinda defeats the purpose of being solid...

early stages but still cool.

Spaceforcejuan 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah I was looking at getting a job with them. Never heard back. Not sure what kind of certifications you need to get into that lmfao.

I do crazy wiring for big pharma clean rooms, so im sure i could be useful somewhere.

Brilliant idea, though you know that this (not yours, specifically) enterprise will eventually crash then transform the world's commodities markets.

2
Spaceforcejuan 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah thats the point =)

When we can safely and efficiently import materials from space is when the real golden age begins.

Can't bring them home. Economy will tank if we did. It would be more wise to focus on building up space industry first since that will help in the long run on top of reaching further out.

Think about the classic kids game of hopscotch. You hop along the path with one foot then two if available. In this analogy we can say that space mining is box 1, space industry is box 2, space Development is box 3, and the two boxes are for more avenues of business to open up which leads to more people. This is repeated a few times which allows for others to join in. Soon after that it will be cheap enough to send the common person for $10k. That seems like a lot, but I am talking about something like a round trip.

If we apply aerogel design with materials research(example theory being using aerogel design with Graphene type material for skin structure, and another material with aspects of mass being as heavy as aluminum or lighter for skeletal structure but being as strong or stronger than reinforced steel) we could create lighter stronger ships meaning larger loads be that for people or cargo still means a lot more goes into space which feeds the cycle.

4
alfredbester 4 points ago +4 / -0

The economy will change, not tank. Space exploration will follow the money like every other industry in the history of this planet and probably every other one in the galactic federation.

-2
Aambrick -2 points ago +0 / -2

I said if they bring the material to Earth it would tank the economy. It would be more wise to use the material for Space industry because it would pay out in the long run far more.

I don't really know where you got that the hauling of materials will tank the economy out of my sentence.

1
FragrantDude 1 point ago +2 / -1

His point is that by the time we get to the place where we are bringing the material back to Earth, the economy will likely have evolved far beyond where we are now and will be able to handle the massive influx of commoditable goods (which is where the issue in tanking the economy comes from).

It would be more wise to use the material for Space industry because it would pay out in the long run far more.

This is but one of the many uses the material will have.

That’s what Space Force is for

It’s like how we buy planes and support and equipment from Boeing/Lockheed, etc.

Truth is a vital component of creativity. That's why Hollywood recycles everything now. They can't see the truth so they attempt to mimic it. Lies don't build wisdom.

I would always support a private company whos motives are clear (profits) versus the public sector where the motive is not clear. Do you really think the people in charge of these sectors are out for the greator good? There will always be a few bad ones out there to screw it all up.

In 2014 during a spat with the Russians one of their guys in charge of space recommended the US jump on a trampoline to get to the ISS since Obama abandoned the US ability to get humans to orbit.

In fairness, that was a perfectly legitimate remark after what Obama pulled.

You know, until the economy collapsed.

Blue states are closed down and rioting, and red staters are having fun and sending rockets to space.

Its almost like Dem states are becoming uncivilized third world economic shitholes.

A rat done bit my sister Nell
with Whitey on the moon
Her face and arms began to swell
and Whitey's on the moon
I can't pay no doctor bill
but Whitey's on the moon
Ten years from now I'll be paying still
while Whitey's on the moon
The man just upped my rent last night
'cause Whitey's on the moon
No hot water, no toilets, no lights
but Whitey's on the moon

Imagine how far along we would be if we just went for it instead of trying to drag everyone up to the same level, kicking and screaming.

2
Aambrick 2 points ago +2 / -0

We would have an active space station about 7-20 times the size of the ISS with space mining having just started 2-3 years ago.

When they want to put America on a stand still, America pushes forward.

Global pandemic, destroyed economy, riots in lots of major US cities, race war tensions at all time highs, and yet we still manage to launch men into space. Truly beautiful.
