One of my best friends is from Taiwan and he called himself Boaty 20 years ago at an Arcade place we worked at.
I never understood why his entire family was named Kai but was it rude to ask? Every son was named the same. And their dad used to call me milk boy in some dialect cause he thought all white people smelt like milk.
But I had to sleep in a room where crabs got the bathtub next door.
My brothers wife is Ying and I prefer it to her new name.
And I think Kai is from a Nordic country, I wont give their full names but every single son was Kai and they all came from Taiwan
When I was a kid I never asked and just ate pork floss and dried squid while playing games with my friend. His mum knew what I wanted haha.
I would say they are named after Kai-shek who was a nationalist which we all love.

I use my sister in laws name and I respect it but it feels forced. Ying feels better than Carol. Her mum who I love is Pei Wa (no idea of the spelling) and it is better to say.
Her mum did not need a fake Aussie name and neither did my friend,
Dude you cant live in Australia without knowing Mandarin. My 4 year old neice laughs at mine but China has really taken Australia over

No I totally agree with you that if I lived in China I would take a Chinese name and learn the language fully. I am trying now. (Currently I am pissed off at China so I have lapsed)
