Pittsburgh here, my grandkids report the same. They were downtown standing in solidarity with the real protestors. A gang of strangers came sweeping in, wreaking violence and destruction. After a certain amount of damage, the thugs regrouped and moved on to another area.
The real protestors were shocked and appalled. Our kids said the police came along and asked them to go home, saying that it wasn't a peaceful protest anymore and was becoming too dangerous.
They were never meant to be peaceful protests. Bad insurrection actors need COVER to do what they intend to do. They need meat shields. The peaceful protesters ARE the meat-shields. Your granddaughter has absolutely no business being out there at all. I have stopped everything for a minute to pray for blessings for your family to keep them safe and happy. I know you are the grandparent and not the parent so there may be little to nothing you can do. But if it were me, and I had ANY sway in family decisions, I would do everything in my power to keep her from going back out to protest again.
