No disputing the facts.

But the entire current situation is an emotional argument.

Arguing facts against someone totally emotionally committed makes it ... "Your fault" and cements them in their position.

(Facts work great shoring up the actual center and the other not-emotionall-involved ... but education has been trying their very best to make everyone emotionally tied in here.)
