I'm ready to finally get some, but know pretty much nothing. I fired some recreationally like a decade ago, but someone else was taking care of all the details, I was just shooting them. What's some good resources I can look at?
What should I get? I was thinking maybe a pistol, a shotgun, and a M15? for whatever the most common ammo types are available.
Some of the guns out there I can't tell if parts of their design serve some desirable function or if they are just asthetics to look badass. Maybe it'd be better the less 'scary' looking there are for all the confiscation possibilities.
I just want something super reliable, maintainable, simple, functional, for home defense and you know, if the worst happens and I end up in some civil war trench cause shit hit the fan. Praying that doesn't happen.
How much $$$ should I expect to spend and not end up with junk. Who are some reputable vendors? Can I just order online? Or is shipping guns to houses not alowd? I know nothing.
What about other concerns? Does ammo expire? How do I store it? Assuming the world stays in one piece, it's going to mostly just sit in storage for me. I don't make enough for it to be sport.
Might be nice to have a sidebar guide full of links/resources for gun stuff. I can't be the only one whose been putting off jumping on the gunwagon yet.
Thanks for you help.
Go to your Local Gun Shop, hold some see what feels nice. After that do some research, I always watch Hickock45 reviews on youtube before I purchase. I value what he has to say.
Tip: when you go to look at a gun shop, be prepared that the salesperson will hand you the gun from the case to feel in your hand. Don’t recoil or look scared - take it from him or her and don’t hesitate. The gun is unloaded - but the absolute rule is NEVER POINT THE GUN AT A PERSON when you are handling the gun- the barrel must be pointed at the floor or away from all people (including yourself) at all times. Be aware of where you are pointing the gun at all times. DON’T PUT YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER OR TRY IT OUT (dry fire) ON THE GUN. If you’re looking at a rifle, ask for assistance on how to hold it if you need it. Don’t be embarrassed or too proud to ask. That’s what they are there for and, if you are legally entitled, they want to make the sale.
thx for info I will check out hickock
For Home Defense, This is all you'll ever need
For home defense you want Bird Shot. As you get more comfortable with the weapon you should look into slugs.
EDIT: You don't need camo and all that bullshit, the main focus here is the Remmy 870. Its the most reliable, and practical home defence weapon for a first time buyer. Shop around you can find them as low as $230
More Editing: You need to look into laws in your state, it could be as easy as ordering and picking up for a Licensed Firearm Dealer in your area. Or it could be as easy as walking into Walmart tomorrow. Or it could be really fucking retarded but shotguns are pretty much respected in all states when it comes to 2A.
thx for info
For the first time ever, I’m actually considering Taurus. They seem to have turned things around
Get a shotgun, see Bill Burr's sketch on why :). If you wont get to practice, this is your best bet. Don't waste money on some tacticool BS shotgun, soundslike you aren't going to be a 3gun competitor. When the cash options open up, get a pistol, and go practice. Honestly, get a .22 pistol for trianing, and then a larger for when things are serious. Remember, you must practice. Only a shotgun is forgiving if you dont, when it really counts. Rifle 3rd, this is more expensive and much more expenseive to practice with. By the time you get there though, you will have watched 100+ hrs of youtubes :), and you will have a good idea what to get.
ok thx
Start off reading the gun laws of your state. Thats very important to know.
Shotguns are effective in close quarters.
Handguns I would at least get something 9mm, not bigger than 45mm
I thinknyou were referring to an M16, which is a miltary rifle and has full auto which is illegal. An AR15 is the civilian version with only semi auto.
I would recommend spending some time at a gun store and get as much info from one of their experts. Usually really cool people and are happy to give info.
sounds good thanks
GREAT site!
will check it out thx
lets start with a question..whats an M15?
Be nice!
hah! I'm embarrassed, think I meant AR15
There’s some good advice here. You asked a lot of questions. The three core weapons everyone should have are a 12 gauge shotgun with as many rounds as your state allows.
Then you buy a pistol for carry and defense. I stuck to nine mill. I like bigger calibers better but if shit hits the fan military and police forces often shoot 9 mill so you can pick up amp left behind which leads me to the third weapon...
You buy an ar-15 in .223/5.56 for the same ammo reasons and because it’s a lot of rifle for the lonely and you can customize one amy way you want with endless options for accessories, etc.
As for storing ammo, with the mags these days, the plastic/polymer type you’d have in those guns can be stored loaded and ready to use. That didn’t use to be the case. Any other ammo can be stored anywhere so long as it isn’t getting wet.
One other Pede here said this and this is a credo in my family. You must practice with the weapon often enough to be proficient and safe with it. It does no good for defense if you’re searching for the safety or can’t make a decent reload etc etc.
Best of luck to ya and hope you enjoy when you get your firearms! Be safe.
thanks
Anytime. Reach out Direct with another reply if you have a specific question as you go forward with your purchase, etc. Somemof These other pedes probably wouldn’t mind either.
First, if you decide to get one, for the love of god’s cock, get training, be extra safe, and keep it away from children. Also, GET TRAINING! A gun can be a fun hobby, a way to defend your life, and it’s misuse can be a way to end your life, and/or make you wish you were dead after a tragic accident. I’d say get your self a mossberg 500 or a Remington 870. If you can’t afford that, settle for a maverick 88 . all those are 12 gauge pumps. I’d use 00 buckshot for defense.
If you are wanting a pistol, a smith and Wesson m&p 9 full-size is a great go to option for the house. I’d I Use 115 or 124 grain hollow points for the house. Speer gold dots are great.
You can’t get a gun shipped to the house. Check your laws, but for buying a gun online, typically just click the gun you want, add it to cart and pick your closest gun shop to ship it to from a drop down menu. Call the gun shop and let them know you got a gun coming. Theyll explain the rest.
there's a serious training program here for civilians, not cheap, but might just do it anyways. thx for response and info
You’re on the right track. Handgun, shotgun, rifle.
You want a glock 9mm. Whatever fits your hand best. Probably a 17 or 19. $5-600
As another suggested, get the Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun. $250-$400
For the rifle you want the colt M4 5.56 caliber. It’s basically the AR15 but has the capability to fire two sizes of ammunition. This is important because ammo is becoming scarce. Last I checked around $1000
You need at least 500 rounds of ammo for each piece you do get. 1000 is better. You must get a safe. Don’t want anyone having access to your weapons.
I’m sure you’ve heard the term, ‘keep your powder dry’. Ammo goes in the safe. Dry, cool area.
Order online is no problem, but the guns go to a federally licensed dealer, not your house. You will have to pay for the background check before they release the gun to you. For that reason, I suggest you just go to a dealer in your area.
Don’t fucking wait! You think toilet paper went fast? Guns and ammo will be flying off the shelves. Tomorrow, go acquire at least one of the 3. If there’s a sportsman’s store in your area, they are a valuable source for guns and ammo.
yea, way late to this. thanks for the info
ok appreciate the info
Ammo doesn't really expire, just keep it dry. Usually stored somewhere cool and dry. Shooting doesn't have to be expensive. You can shoot cheap rounds, or smaller(cheaper) rounds. You say "sit in storage", but remember that a gun doesn't do you any good if you can't get to it in time to use it when you need it.
Certainly you would want to practice every now and then, just to be familiar. You should be able to find a course near you that would teach you about firearms, and firearm safety. Maybe call a local gun range or store if you have one. Thinking about common ammo types is good, to keep it simple and cheap.
No you can't ship a gun to your house Obama. /s But you can purchase one online and have it shipped to a dealer, for them to transfer to you. Gotta have your background check! The liberals sure cry about them enough.
As far as cost, I would say you could get a solid AR-15 rifle for 5-600, you could get a reliable pistol or shotgun for less, and there are always used options for even less. Obviously now is not the best time to be shopping for firearms or ammo, but if you absolutely have to, just shop around, there are some stupid high prices these days.
sounds good, thx for info
Found the particular model 870 appropriate for home defence
The proper order of learning your weapons IMO and you'd probably see me backed up here later but I'm going to bed, are as followed:
Just remember, ALWAYS treat a gun as if it’s loaded!!! Even if you just dropped the magazine and locked back the slide TREAT IT AS A LOADED FIREARM!
yes sir!
ok lets get serious..(if you are)
1--(main firearm) AR-15 Ammo is gonna be everywhere 2--(on your hip) Glock 19 again Ammo is going to be everywhere 3--If ya Find yourself exhausting #1+2 Grab yer 1911 (in 45acp) from your chest holster
(you should immediately hear "blaze of glory" by Bon jovi in your head *and start seeing visions of tom hanks dying on the bridge in sav private ryan) and prepare to meet Odin for a beer in valhalla! LOL
4--if ya just want a shotgun remmington 870 or mossberg 500
that should help ya out! PS ammo if stored correctly can last 100 yrs and for god sakes Take a safety course and train
and now ya know, and knowing is half the Battle!
thanks for the info
