So far it has been peaceful, but it gets louder every evening. There have been riots in other cities in my state. We are supposed to move into a new house in two weeks out in the country. Please just pray that my husband, kids l, and I stay safe until then.

I live in Chicago on a major retail street. They tore the city apart limb from limb. I don’t know about other parts of the city, but here it was all blacks in shit cars. The cops just let them do it. I even heard one joke “At this point they’re lucky if they can still find stuff to loot at the dollar store.” This was as criminals were ransacking the remaining stores. The liberal mayor came on this morning to say that cops did everything they could to save the city from looters, while most literally doing nothing. I hate this city, I’ve resolved to move to a red state. I can’t even buy a gun as the state has held onto my FOID registration for over a year without processing it.

I'm living near the heart of the riots in Portland, OR. It's worrisome. There have been what sounded like gunshots the last two nights.
I just took a walk and saw a bunch of 20-somethings looking like they wanted to start something. Several had spray paint, almost all wearing masks (mostly bandana-style). By a bunch, I mean about 40 or so during a half-mile walk — and not even near the more-populated mall area which was a quarter mile from where I ended up. That was about 6 PM. I had one guy ask me if I knew where the riot was and I pretended like I didn't hear him and kept walking.
The liquor store I was walking to was boarded up and chained. I went to my favorite bar to perhaps get a to-go growler, but it had a smashed window that was boarded up and it was all closed down.
Around 8 PM (1.5 hours after this posting), I expect things to start getting heated. I'll be staying inside.

Can a friend or family stay with you? Just as a friendly visit, but would be nice if need be... Also bring in your stuff, make your home look unsexy. Cameras are nice, you can live monitor them since you absolutely do not want to give anyone outside an idea of who lives there. Watch them, dont let them watch you.
Also a good time to go door to door and talk with your neighbors. Just say hello.

Don’t know how to make sure people see this comment, but by way of update, last night was fine. The police chief, who is black, held a 100 black men march of his own at a different site that many people attended. The protestors who did remain at the protest site sounded much angrier than usual. News reports came back that someone with an assault rifle was arrested. We’ll see what happens tonight but I think this might just be limited to weekends.
I’ll also note, I haven’t seen any Antifa weirdos lurking around, and that is probably a huge part of it not escalating. No free bricks here.
Nevertheless, we’ve been trying to move out of this neighborhood ever since the COVID shut down. We’re in a nice neighborhood, but we’re deep in the heart of the city. We have been experiencing insane amounts of theft and there was a drive by in front of our house a few weeks ago. I’ve been on high alert since then. The only solution is to get our butts into the country and hopefully get some self-sustaining plans in action.
In the meantime, my husband and I came up with an escape plan. We’ve picked up two extra rifles in addition to our handguns, and we have a plan of attack if necessary. Our porch is cleared. Our points of entry are protected. Hopefully we’ll make it two more weeks.
I feel like a crazy person, but I’m realizing I’m not crazy at all because of the state of the country right now.....and that’s what’s crazy!
