Yes, but that actually wasn't the beginning of their end. It was the ordination of Bishop John Shelby Spong. I sang in the choir at his ordination. Before that, the first time he preached in my hometown Parish after it had been announced he would become a Bishop, the adults were debating if this would spell the end of the church.
