That was misinformation. The rioters cut off the start of the video to make it look like he was chasing them with a sword. The full video shows a different story. He is walking away from them and they start throwing bricks and rocks at the back of his head. He tries to run away and they chase him. He then loops around and swings the sword (possibly an umbrella) at them to try to scare them away. Then they mob him and beat him to death, smashing his skull in with a brick.
