You can arrest and detain someone for a couple of days just to get them off the street without charging them with anything.
It's designed specifically for situations like this, when you are pretty sure someone is about to commit a crime but can't prove it, you can just hold them for a day or so to either give them time to cool off or to let the situation change enough so their window of opportunity is gone.

You can arrest and detain someone for a couple of days just to get them off the street without charging them with anything.
It's designed specifically for situations like this, when you are pretty sure someone is about to commit a crime but can't prove it, you can just hold them for a day or so to either give them time to cool off or to let the situation change enough so their window of opportunity is gone.
