I don't think it's actually knee-jerk defense of the police so much as it is just a knee-jerk opposition to whatever stance the left takes. If the left is raving and wailing about something, they must be wrong about it because they're the left. If the left is saying that a neck hold for over 8 minutes was murder then, well, there must be a justifiable reason for why a neck hold for over 8 minutes was reasonable. If the left says the death of Floyd was a tragedy, then we've got to find character flaws with him to say he deserved what he got.

It's a problem that we all need to be cognizant of. The phrase "even a broken clock is right twice each day" comes to mind. Floyd can be a drugged out piece of shit who pistol whipped a pregnant woman during a home invasion...and still have been murdered by a shitty cop. Floyd could have resisted initially...and it can still be unjustified to keep him in a neck hold for 8 minutes, long after he passed out. You can accept that the rioters and looters are assholes and the protests have long since worn out their welcome and still agree that Floyd was murdered. These aren't mutually exclusive positions.
