The Berkeley free speech riots were not about free speech, in the same way that the George Floyd riots are not about George Floyd. Read Ayn Rand - The New Left: The Anti Industrial Revolution. She knew the left better than we do now 50 years ago.

Andrew Breitbart kneww the left better than you do as well

the reality is they will do anything for power. which means you must do anything to stop them. you can't tie yourself up with fictional rules against an enemy that plays by no ruless

the future of your country is at stake and you can't hamstring yourself

the way to take Free speech back is to have Trump and others in the government crackdown on Facebook and Twitter. I don't even care about section 230. really they should just pass a simple law or regulation stating that social media companies with more than 230 million viewers per month are not allowed to censor anything that is not illegal..

they've shown that they can't handle moderating themselves so as the ublic square they can't sensor anything unless it's illegal

boom. problem solved. And the FCC would conduct an audit of the algorithms every few months to make sure that Facebook and Twitter algorithms nott specifically targeting conservatives.

that's how you solve the problem. anything else is bullshit trying to get you to chase your taill

Problem with getting any law passed is lobbying. Good luck getting any politician to care unless they get enough contribution money to have lobbyists draft a bill and even more money to have all the corrupt fucks in our government vote to pass it.

Now how’s that gonna happen when these huge social media companies contribute to politicians so they don’t vote yes on anything limiting their power?

Maybe we need to set up a fund somehow to buy our way into not being censored. As sad as that sounds.

That’s how governments work. Sick and sad but true.

you can get around this by not passing a law and instead passing a regulation. regulation can be passed by the FCC and all it requires is Trump's signature..

I don’t even know if it is “algorithms.”

Take reddit, the content there is extremely sensationalized. These social media boards heavily influence their front page. They may no longer be guilty of these acts these days as they have cultivated an audience of radicalized followers.

It is seriously disgusting over there. It is so heavily censored and manipulated to show only a single narrative.

Even worse are groups that are organized. I’m seeing heavy use of narrative promotion on places like slashdot. Is it the site owners or a brigade of users. When anyone mentions Antifa it gets denounced as a boogeyman. Yet there is clear evidence of their behavior and existence.

People are being manipulated for both indirect and direct dollars. I’m not sure what happened to society that they cannot reason and evaluate issues. I believe it is simply the nature of their ignorance.

Learn to question.

I know this site is a “trump rally”, but lately it seems to be the only place we can talk about what is really going on. Not everything here is reality either, but for the most part people here are genuine.

Twitter and FB are being used to coordinate mob attacks. Could that not be reason enough to temporarily take them offline_? And any other sites , such as reddit or IG or whatever, that try to fill the void-?

And the FCC would conduct an audit of the algorithms every few months

The problem with this is, most of the federal government are Democrats who have drunk the leftist Koolaid. The second another left administration came into power, the FCC would immediately greenlight any censorship that the FAAG companies do. And they would use the Trump administration's actions as a precedent. Absolutely without shame. Believe me. All they want is more power.

"you can't tie yourself up with fictional rules against an enemy that plays by no rules"

100x this.

Our principles should determine the way we treat each other, not our enemies.

The Golden Rule of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you is only good for the first action. After that, you do unto them as they do unto you. In other words, you simply repeat their moves back to them. This is the optimal play as has been proven in Darwinian theory.

Anti industrial revolution? Hasn't that been what globalism is all about? Move the factories and businesses out? America and the west as a whole has been de-industrialized for decades, it is our great president who's dedicated to bring the jobs back. This chinese virus pandemic is a warning call that accelerates this process to get the hell out of the chicom's grip.

The Berkeley riots were not about free speech, you're absolutely right. They were waving around the North Vietnam flag and Mao flags to show their support and camaraderie for Marxist movements. They didn't really care about or understand the depth and purpose of free speech as it would be articulated by someone like Tocqueville or such. It was just a political tool for subversion to them. They appropriated it and cheapened it just like they've done with everything else. Like anti-racism. Just look out your window right now and you can see the wonderful results.
