Background checks are EXTREMELY detailed and thorough nowadays. Only the most FAR LEFT SJW employers won't care.
Everyone else, even those employers who may be liberal will NOT HIRE a possible liability.
They can FORGET ever getting a security clearance, being responsible for money or people, or ANY high level job... even when they realize they were wrong, THEY'LL PAY THE PRICE FOREVER.

Some cities/states prohibit employers from asking about criminal history on applications and during interviews. I think they can ask after making a job offer, but by that point the other applicants who are worth hiring have usually moved on.

Whether they have budget to contract for background checks or not, all HR departments google all applicants, especially before getting to the offer stage. They are fucked. Unless they are joining a hairy-armpit wahmen's bookstore. Then, they deserve each other.
