I know plenty of people that work at these companies here in the Bay, and I don’t think they’d choose option 1. I think a few things might happen from Trump’s 230 play, in no particular order:

  1. Trump opens the door for the tech companies to throw each other under the bus. There have already been hints that Zuckerberg is open to throwing Twitter and Google under the bus in how he responded, but there really wouldn’t need to be. They’re always gunning for each other and would love to tank their competition. That’s daily business here in Silicon Valley.
  2. Twitter and others double down against Trump before the election because they’d be unprofitable and tank without state support on things like tax exemption and things like that, so they have little choice, and it’s probably hard for them not to drink their own koolaide after a while. They hope against hope that Trump loses so the gamble will pay off, which their 19 year old consultants assure them it will.
  3. Some companies actually do try giving up and stop trying to unfairly censor and control things. They initially pull a little ahead in shareholder value, and others scramble to criticize them, but others still do the same to ride the disruption wave.
  4. At least one big tech company is financially crippled and gets eaten by another. Probably Twitter. They’re retards anyway.
  5. Massive dumps, either organic or from outlets like Wikileaks, enter the fray proving just how bad the censorship and corruption is in big tech.
  6. A lot of companies scramble as this happens, flip flopping to be platforms again to avoid the endless tsunami of legalese coming their way.
  7. 230 may or may not be rewritten and clarified.

Whatever happens, this is going to determine the fate of free speech on the internet, and whether or not the CCP essentially purchases the US from the DNC.
