I read the Guardian story and thought the "small American company" sounded sketchy as hell. Everything about them sounds like a group of con men except--where's the money? How did these people make money? Who would hire them? They had some sort of front, that takes at least a little money. Then also how did they get into Lancet and NEJM? Either the journal review process is incredibly shoddy or they were bought, I think. There are definitely journals that will publish papers for money.
