Yeah. The people who are asking for you to think for yourself are the gaslighters. Lmfao. Do these idiots know what the term means or where it comes from? Which cable news was it that told its viewers never to trust any other news but them? Oh, that's right. It was CNN.....

Hell, I don't even see myself as conservative, and I even I can see many right leaning folk frequently call out their side or correct each other on faulty information. You know, like rationals do. The left refuses to do this, which is why they're so easily radicalized. Because they never think them or their side to be wrong.

We are fallible. When we, the rational few, say to never be so trusting about the media, we don't mean to only trust each other. Only to trust in a sound argument, one that is sufficiently evidenced. And no, anonymous sources do not count. How that is gaslighting is beyond me.

The funny part is that nobody disputes the officer overstepped his bounds. Is what he did equivalent to murder? Debatable, pending on autopsy results. Is it overzealous policing? Sure.

None of that excuses the violence and looting though. ALL of which hurts BLACK BUSINESSES the most.

38
AndyCuomoIsAMobster 38 points ago +40 / -2

The real answer is that police need to be payed more, trained better, and given psych evaluations periodically. It's a proven fact that much of our police force deals with symptoms of PTSD. Which means their flight or fight is not properly functioning in high stress situations. Which means that there are issues with the care, training, education of our police forces at some point in the chain of command.

I'm sure leftist don't want to hear it, but police (along with EMTs, Firefighters etc etc) need to be compensated fairly and recognized as working high stress jobs. Police deserve higher pay, more vacation time, mental health care. At the same time, they should be wearing body cams and have posts the public can lean against if there is police brutality occuring.

Webasdias 17 points ago +18 / -1

Those things aren't going to work if the powers that be in a given area aren't conducive to them.

Democrat run shitholes like Minneapolis are going to keep being mismanaged and the way the police are ran is always going to reflect that. It's basically a self-fulfilling prophecy. They'll find a way to fuck it up and piss more black people off.

9
Yawnz13 9 points ago +11 / -2

This. The hold used was still approved by the Minneapolis City Council (likely the ones responsible for writing PD policy) despite it no longer being allowed in most of the rest of the state.

It's a top-to-bottom issue. If the lawmakers can't/won't do their job properly, those who are responsible for carrying out the law are going to be deficient as well. Add in people being dependent on the actual job of being a police officer and the unions, and you get more problems.

Unions shield the incompetent from being removed because it would cut into their due money.

Being dependent on the job is sort of like the old trope about former infantrymen when they leave the military. Finding a different job is difficult due to the lack of time available to acquire other skills.

Autopsy report done by a Dem stated George Floyd died of a heart attack high on opioids, pot, and speed. He also tested positive for COVID.

https://www.hennepin.us/-/media/hennepinus/residents/public-safety/documents/Autopsy_2020-3700_Floyd.pdf

Minnesota's Chief of Police is Black. I am going to guess that the dude screens for racism, and other things, especially after last year when Mohamed Noor, the Black Muslim cop, killed the unarmed white woman when he was on duty.

https://www.vibe.com/2019/04/minnesota-cop-mohamed-noor-convicted-murder

0
Yawnz13 0 points ago +2 / -2

Just for clarification, the report does not say a word about a heart attack. A myocardial infarction AKA heart attack occurs when blood supply to the heart is interrupted. He likely would've had one eventually, but he didn't have one while being restrained.

I'd be willing to bet the black police chief screens for racism or "racism", but I'd bet money he's still seen as "not black". What'cha bet a good portion of the Minneapolis City Council is black too?

9
Aquamine-Amarine 9 points ago +11 / -2

I agree. Cops who frequently abuse their power and violate police protocol need to be fired immediately. We don't want those kind of people in the police force.

6
xopi 6 points ago +8 / -2

I say it should be the exact opposite. We have law enforcement intervene in only the absolute most extreme insurrection act level of scenarios. Aside from that, let them kill each other in their own neighborhoods. Let them rob and mob each other.

You'll see how quickly crime plummets when they're all dead. Law enforcement was a failed experiment. Our founding fathers didn't call the cops. Cops didn't even exist. If they had a problem, they dealt with it themselves.

An armed society is a polite society. People are less likely to victimize you if you know you can just as easily kill them.

Besides the justice system is so perverted right now it's amazing there haven't been even more riots. Laughably light sentences for extremely serious crimes where people die. Like the lady who killed her husband in cold blood, serve 3 years, and have the judge steal the estate from his son and give it to his wife when he got out. Ludicrously extreme sentences for minor crimes. Like the guy serving life for stealing some toilet paper

3
Yawnz13 3 points ago +6 / -3

That's hilarious. "Cops didn't even exist. If they had a problem, they dealt with it themselves."

That logically made them the cops in all but name, and last I checked, law enforcement doesn't have to have a special title to exist. You'd be going from a few hundred/thousand cops to tens/hundreds of thousands if not more, all with significantly less training, funding, motivation, etc.

Also, they did have precursors to modern police in the form of a constabulary and/or watchmen.

-1
xopi -1 points ago +1 / -2

Let people take crimes into their own hands.

If someone breaks into my house, and I shoot them, why on earth should I be the one freaking out and going to jail? Sure, I'll get out eventually, after I spend $50,000 in lawyers and spend the next 2 years of my life going in and out of court rooms.

If someone steals from my store, I should be able to tackle them and take my stuff back (and if I'm wrong, they should be able to sue me into bankruptcy). Instead I have to let them go.

What are cops doing? They're not investigating crimes. They're hiding behind bridges where the speed limit goes from 55 to 35 suddenly and pulling over everyone en masse.

3
Yawnz13 3 points ago +4 / -1

When people take crimes into their own hands, you get the kind of shit we're seeing now. Evidence is ignored and justice becomes arbitrary. What you're arguing for is the biggest police state imaginable because now everyone is essentially police, judge, jury, and executioner, beholden only to their own standards. Why do you think these rioters are all out there? They're acting on a perceived injustice. It ain't about some black dude getting unintentionally choked out by the cops, it's about an entire group of people (not just black people either) who have been told their entire lives that they are victims of a crime and that the current society is the one that victimized them.

I don't know where you live, but people here have no reason to fear going to jail because they shot someone breaking into their house or stealing their shit. Sounds more like an issue with your local government than the over-arching concept of police. Don't give me that "Oh but cops aren't investigating" bullshit either. If they weren't, we wouldn't have crime statistics to go off of in the first place.

0
xopi 0 points ago +2 / -2

They're not investigating. They come, give you a report, and that's it. Unless the criminal was insanely sloppy and did something like drop their wallet with an id, the victim can personally id them, or they get caught in the actual act, nothing happens.

And as for what's happening now. The rioters are rioting because no one is fighting back. Let business owners and people actually fight back and let them shoot these rioters on sight or run them over with their cars.

These riots will stop very quickly. The risk/reward balance is way too tipped in the favor of rioters.

4
axrevolutionai 4 points ago +5 / -1

Or better yet, properly fund our police to remove ticketing and quotas, that would dramatically increase community support of police

let's route taxes from liberal entitlements and illegals and put it where it matters

16
brbronco 16 points ago +17 / -1

As someone who doesn't know anything about law enforcement and doesn't know all the details of this case, I can't even pretend that I know if the officer overstepped his bounds or not, or how egregious of a mistake it was, it was a bad look at the very least but that is all I know for sure, it looked bad.

I have no way of telling if the officer was racist.

What I know is that people underestimate how hard, complicated and dangerous it is to be a cop.

6
Afrikaner_Vrystaat 6 points ago +7 / -1

The officer is married to an asian woman. I don't get the accusations of racism. Was the knee on the felons neck out of bounds? Maybe? But like you said, hundreds of officers are slain every year by dangerous felons: many are black. I understand the apprehension they have about making ANY sort of approach on a person. Especially in this political climate

3
lixa 3 points ago +4 / -1

Looked very intentional. Some are saying he knew and perhaps had a personal beef with the victim and watching the video I can see that. I highly doubt that it was racism. There are a lot of things that don’t add up about the case. Why not have the original officers just apprehend him? Why bring in others? Why not keep him in the car? Who cares that he was struggling inside? Why take him back outside? Perhaps there are answers but it seems strange.

the looters have little if nothing to do with the protesters. The protesters march peacefully all day and go home after curfew. Then the assholes come out and take advantage of the occupied police and loot and steal, not to mention antifa anarchists who just want to watch shit burn. I've been watching the protesters very carefully, spending time on their forums, talking to friends I know who have protested. No one is more critical of the looters than the protesters. They are 100% against it and against violence as they know it hurts their cause and they care about the cause.

Also I support their cause. We need some police reform. Police can't be left to investigate themselves in cases of unjust killings. That is ridiculous and would not be acceptable in any other government body. The first demands of the protesters is to establish an independent body to investigate police misconduct. I think this is a no brainer.

38
UnregisteredTurtle 38 points ago +40 / -2

Nearly everyone is on the side of George Floyd and approves of the arrest and trial of the officer involved. That leads to some very deep questions about treatment by police and makes people think about how we could solve that problem. I haven't seen much opposition to that at all. But then they started smashing windows and stealing shit, and now people are more likely to side with the police just to make the rioting stop. Well done lads on that counter-productive move there.

21
Formerlurker92 21 points ago +22 / -1

I support a trial, some people support a lynching of those officers and won't be satisfied with anything less

13

10
ProdigalPlaneswalker 10 points ago +12 / -2

A guilty verdict could lead to closure and healing. The Deep State wants none of that.

I suspect the officer who killed Floyd might "didn't kill himself" or get two COVID-19s to the back of the head before he reaches trial.

10
Formerlurker92 10 points ago +10 / -0

get two COVID-19s to the back of the head

I am using this from now on

5
snoopy3210 5 points ago +6 / -1

Also people could learn of the judicial process. Look at the Nazis that framed up Michael Flynn. He didn’t back down, he changed lawyers and fought back. Blacks can use the justice system and expose the abuse just like Michael Flynn is doing.

3
UnregisteredTurtle 3 points ago +4 / -1

We need a trial in every case because we assume innocence and must prove guilt prior to conviction.

4
Formerlurker92 4 points ago +4 / -0

I agree with you. Do you think BLM does

2
UnregisteredTurtle 2 points ago +2 / -0

From the looks of it, no.

3
bobobob 3 points ago +3 / -0

The left seems to be using the escalation in police force to reaffirm their opinion that all police are power-hungry racists because they're attacking the "peaceful black protesters". Nevermind that this escalation was a direct result of the rioting that happened previously.

What used to be a universal condemnation of an apparent murder committed by the police is now politicized into left and right issues.

3
Cloudy_mood 3 points ago +3 / -0

Seriously. If there were peaceful marches and protests, not everyone would pay attention, but it would have meant more to the public and the world.

Instead all anyone sees on the news is destruction and thievery.

1
ChinaAsshoe 1 point ago +2 / -1

the rioters are not the protesters. The rioters are taking advantage of the situation to steal

1
Isolated_Patriot 1 point ago +4 / -3

This opinion may not go over well, but I would have accepted a done-and-over lynching of the actual perpetrator as far more valid than rioting and looting across the country.

8
Formerlurker92 8 points ago +8 / -0

I wouldn't want that to happen, but at least that response makes sense. Burning down a low income housing project is basically a non sequitur

3
UnregisteredTurtle 3 points ago +3 / -0

No, absolutely not. That's not how we do things. We assume innocence and prove guilt, not the other way around.

13
NoatakTheWiser 13 points ago +14 / -1

We're already seeing ongoing witch hunts. Media pundits and others with large audiences (professional athletes, celebrities, pseudo-celebrities, etc.) have been pointing the finger at those with similar audiences and asking why they've not spoken up.

IMO, these people who've so far remained silent would be foolish to speak up, especially those who aren't black. Just look at the backlash Drew Brees has received.

And who gives a shit about [BRAND] making their logo black or posting a black square to their socials? It's insincere and helps nothing. Just like all these fools who "amplified black voices"...by flooding social media feeds with nothing but black boxes.

As George Washington once said, "It is better to be alone than in bad company."

The maga hat person is looking at these giants while the liberal says that he is oppressed and fighting for justice.

If these people really cared they would be protesting the Chinese kicking black people out of their country like Hitler did the Jews.

I see groupthink here too, just nowhere near as bad. Maintain your mind and you will be fine.

Just to provide a few examples of stuff I know is popular that I disagree with...

-Lefties are all bad or incapable of thinking for themselves

-Muslims are completely incompatible (Most are, not all)

-Canada is uber-cucked beyond redemption (I live here, it's not Europe)

Disagreement is what differentiates us anyway, as long as it's not outright concern trolling I'd say it's much healthier than leftie-speech-police land.

Protestors look like a bunch of know nothing children fresh from the propaganda mills (colleges).

Anyone else find it hilarious that people wearing masks are holding signs that say "I can't breathe"
