I don’t think anyone really won the Civil War. Nor is that conflict comparable to this one: In the Civil War, the opposing ideologies were conservatism (which was tainted by an rapidly increased tolerance for slavery), and progressivism (in the sense of modernization). The southern conservativism was in continuity with the historic state of mankind, but there was an accretion over time of our toleration for slavery.

Today there aren’t any real conservatives left, really. Most of us probably believe some very liberal things about society and government. Case in point: Anti-miscegenation laws, according to traditional moral theologians and a conservative point of view, are not racist, nor immoral, and are the prerogative of the state to enact prudently. That’s not KKK, that’s just conservative.

Anyway, today’s conflict is between the global left and regular human beings, whether liberal, moderate, or conservative. Unlike in the Civil War, one side actually wants to wipe out a certain group of people.
