Bush lost the election because he was a terrible candidate. He only won because he rode the positive wave of Reagan where anyone would have won that had an R by their name. He was not well liked though. The Democrats Ross Perot'd the ballot to split the vote as well to ensure a Democrat win. They even brought out the race riots conveniently in an election year to ensure unrest. The playbook of the Democrats has not changed much over the years.
