Should I just let this go, or defend my beliefs?

We are writing to convey our heartfelt disappointment and concern about the tragic events of recent weeks and the continuing effects of racism in our society. The killing of George Floyd was heartbreaking and unacceptable. We stand together against hateful acts of discrimination and racism, and we are with all those who have suffered and continue to experience pain.

None of us can stand idly by if we desire to see meaningful change and address systemic problems in our society. That is true also for our role as a higher education provider, where we have a duty and opportunity to make an impact. Calling upon the perspectives of faculty, students, alumni, and staff, we will invite participation in the coming weeks across our institutions to transform our thoughts and our words into action.

To all who feel overwhelmed and demoralized, please know that you have our compassion and support. We have resources for students through our chaplain's office. If you need assistance, don't hesitate to reach out to these resources or through your academic advisor.

Are you going to need letters of recommendation someday? I only ask this because you need to choose your battles carefully. If you plan on going to graduate school (say law school, for example) by skipping this confrontation and getting that further degree you'll be in a better position to fight the bigger, better, battles from a position of strength.

So consider this before you take on a University head as an undergraduate.

I’m going to agree with this. I can’t tell you how many posts and comments I delete. Not because they are racist but because anything I say could be twisted and used against me. The thing is, I do feel this recent “race war” is ultimately a coup attempt. The deep state wants to stoke our emotions, get us riled up. And yes hate each other. Also, I speak to all walks of life. Black, white Latino. No one is telling me about “systematic racism” that is holding them down. Is there racism? Yes. Does it keep people from being successful? No. If you do want stats and information, listen to Larry Elder. Find him on YouTube. Larry is often dispelling the myth of institutional racism. I would say the most important thing you can do is be a good person. Get good grades, exercise, be a role model. Don’t do drugs, etc. Then...when you do come out of the closet as a conservative, you have a good reputation. People will be more likely to listen.

Yea, I will probably just let it go. Just wanted some information on the subject, especially since it seems to be the weapon of choice to browbeat conservatives with these days.

I know. These crazy ideas began when I was in college -- but people who embraced them were in the minority. Most of us just wanted to do well, and get a good career going.

When you're firmly entrenched in whatever field you choose, then it's less risky to make waves. Academics can be notoriously egotistical and it's best not to rattle their cage if you need letters.
