Spent 2 years in an African village. The term "it takes a village to raise a child" makes sense when your definition of child raising is any given adult just beats kids for no apparent reason while they roam free.
Why anybody would hear the phrase African proverb and think "yeah those Africans are pretty successful, I should take some ideas from them" is utterly beyond me.

Thing is they were saying that here in the US back in the 90's as well and 30 years later apparently they still have to say it.
