Ask them to imagine a scenario where Trump loses the 2020 election. Millions of his supporters flood the streets all around the nation to peacefully protest, but there are breakouts of violence, rioting, looting, and arson.
Will they want police to have the power to make arrests then? Or let's say the police stand down or are ineffective. Would they want the military sent in then? Does their logic stay consistent or is it only used when they want it to be used? I think we all know the answers but still fun to watch mental gymnastics performed in real time!

I personally don't think it's effective to equate the current protestors with the Mafia, they'll dismiss it as a false equivalency.
But if you talk about a large group of protestors they don't like.. they'll still dismiss it as a false equivalency, but it'll be funnier to watch
