I’m not sure I know what this means. Germany is a safe place for troops (better than Iraq) and the point is to keep troops near points of interest if we need a swift response in the region (ie turkey). So I don’t see why people are strongly for this move unless they are isolationists who don’t think we should have any troops anywhere. But in that case we’ll give up ground to China and Russia which will ultimately hurt us (not to mention make trade rounds near iran and turkey more dangerous).
You make a valid point. But Germany already gave up their energy independence to Russian interests anyways.
I would be personally very happy with negotiating for a military base in Poland which would provide a more strategic location as well as put us in a country that doesn't hate us.
