Ex-Liberal Reporting In -- What kind of gun should I buy to protect myself from these psychos?

I'm in California. It's miserable. I'm never voting Democrat again so long as I live. And I need a fucking gun. I know nothing about guns -- just want something simple to defend myself with, as necessary. Advice?

An AR-15. Any one will do. They all work just fine.
