And many POC get set up for failure by being passed through inferior schools only to gain admission to top tier universities because of all of the minority perks baked into the academic system. One of my sons had a roommate from the local inner city when he was s freshman in college (a very highly respected university). The kid struggled in school because he lacked a proper foundation to be there. My son said his math level was like that of a 7th or 8th grader (basic algebra). This student had been placed ahead of whites and asians into a very competitive BME program.
My best friend growing up, and myself, graduated high school in the top 5% of our class. I was 1 rank above him, and we participated in the same extracurricular activities. We also grew up on the same street, to families with near identical incomes. We were basically the same applicant. He isn't even black, but was able to check "african-american" on the box because one side of his family is from egypt. Two schools we both applied to: he got into one that I didn't. And the one we both got into, he got 100% scholarships, I got hardly any. Just one small example of many that I've experienced due to my "white privilege"
Today, I've been turned down for probably about 50 jobs, where the position was given to a candidate that I know for a fact had less experience, less or worse education, and a weaker resume... All because I had to check the "white," and "male" boxes. My last name can pass as hispanic so from now on I'm checking that I'm hispanic, and "prefer not to answer," for gender (bonus points if they think I have gender dysphoria). I'm so sick of my white privilege, because all the privileges have been disadvantages, obstacles, and outright discrimination
I started a local outdoor club for some students to go hiking, climbing, etc. We applied for a grant to buy some gear but instead they like to give grants to Black Girls Climb and LGBTQ hiking, and trans outdoor groups and "victims of environmental injustice" instead.
That’s when you say “we are exploring putting 8 white male children on gender hormone therapy,” and wait for the checks to roll in. When they send the photographer you say “yeah, we explored it and decided against it.”

As for my education, I got a degree in chemical engineering from one of the top engineering schools in the country, and was near the top of my class. I earned awards for my academic achievements. It was my first choice of school, and I was accepted to every school I applied for.
I got student loans to pay for what scholarships didn't cover, and worked multiple jobs while in school to cover living expenses.
Shit stains like you want everything handed to them. I worked my ass off for what I have, and I still do so that my family can be comfortable and safe. Something you'll never understand since you're too miserable to lift a finger and care for anyone other than yourself.
Another anecdote regarding college: A young lady from my hometown was recently accepted into every ivy league university in the US. She is black. When interviewed by the local news, her message to other kids who want to apply to the ivy's, was, "Dont be afraid you won't get in due to your grades. Its not about your grades, they look more at your personality." Lol.

I used to be on the hiring committee for a large company. One of the complaints about “white privilege” is that companies are discriminatory in hiring based on the name on a resume. If that were the case it would seem that oppressed people would try to appear white in their resumes.
However, in reality, if someone was minority or gay, there were inevitably at least 3 lines on their resume signaling it. And amazingly, things like GPA cutoffs got dropped dramatically and if an affirmative offer decision was made, there would be a red carpet rollout. I think that is pretty commonplace for a lot of mid sized and large companies and has been for at least 15 years.
What I would see on entry level recruiting was that a person in a protected class might have a GPA a full point below most cutoffs, yet would have like 8 offers. The grievance peddlers are very detached from reality.
Sadly, this hurts minorities too though. Smaller companies can be afraid to hire them because of they aren't a good candidate and need to be fired they now have to worry about a discrimination lawsuit.
Small businesses and startups generally can't afford to play the virtue signaling game. There's too much at stake to be wasting even pennies. And that's also why early stage startups are often accused of being sexist "bro cultures".
If I'm a startup and can only afford to hire 5 programmers, I'm going to hire the best I can get. If they happen to be 3 white dudes, and 2 Asian dudes, I'm going with it. Trying to "diversify" at such early stages of a company could potentially mean business suicide.
Big companies love this shit though because it's a net positive for business. Once you already have a critical amount of skilled engineers, adding in a few sub-par ones in the name of diversity won't impact your product too much and it'll get your on the right side of the press.

I believe there's a threshold for how many quota employees a big company can hire before starting to see a significant decrease in performance. It's a balancing game to find that sweet spot where they're performance is stable and their PR is on good terms.
If it were truly the case that any woke hiring were so bad for business as to go broke, very few companies would be doing it. The fact that most big companies do this is a telling sign. In general, if they're doing it, it means it's a net positive for business. Unless you believe companies truly care so much about diversity they actually put it before profits.

Never been a better time for art in the corporate world than right now. Doesn't mean jobs are easy to get but there are more than ever before. Depending where you are in Tennessee, there may or may not be any. Most of these kinds of jobs are going to be in large cities, even if many of them are part work from home or full time. So remember that - just bc you have skill and experience doesn't mean you're gonna find a job if you live in a small rural town. There is unfortunately a balance that has to take place when having most modern careers vs. wanting to live a rural life. It's certainly possible but you need to be realistic. Clearly, there will be more opportunity in a Dallas or New York or Vegas or Atlanta than there will be in a Lincoln or Tucson or Spearfish. Essentially, yeah maybe you wanna live in Grand Junction but after a year of no graphic art jobs, it's time to look to Denver, or SLC.
That said, keep your head up because there really are opportunities out there for long careers in design. While you wait to find a job, keep creating. If you don't know what to do (you need to figure out this "skill" (drive) if you haven't already), then pick random companies and pretend you're hired as a graphic artist on a marketing campaign and create. Pretend t_d.win just hired you for a marketing campaign and create, just to keep your skill and your creativity sharp. Keep progressing on youtube learning extra skills, maybe learn another program. Maybe dip your toes into video prod/editing and/or After Effects. Maybe get into 3D if you're more into design, or a sketchup and do more technical creative. Maybe go old school and get into watercolor or oil paints, etc. Just keep creating and honing your technique and improving your artistic VISION. This will make having an updated portfolio easy (make sure you have one updated online at the ready if you're looking for a job!!!) and will keep you on your toes when the opportunity presents itself. I'm saving this too for later read. I'm from a multi-race Asian country and this feels just about right (even before I know of this study). People behave and feel vastly different and some of it doesn't seem to be even a cultural thing.
Malays here and in Indonesia - in our neighbouring country - are mostly Muslims, but they seem a totally different breed from Muslims of Middle East, many seem to have extremely laid-back personalities like typical races of South East Asia - despite of somewhat similar Muslim upbringing if you're comparing about the deeply religious ones. (The non-religious ones eats with the Chinese and behaves as if they wish they weren't born Muslim.)
Though it doesn't seem to affect South East Asia as much as it did in the Middle East...... What on Earth is wrong with that place.*

I used to be on the hiring committee for a large company. One of the complaints about “white privilege” is that companies are discriminatory in hiring based on the name on a resume. If that were the case it would seem that oppressed people would try to appear white in their resumes.
However, in reality, if someone was minority or gay, there were inevitably at least 3 lines on their resume signaling it. And amazingly, things like GPA cutoffs got dropped dramatically and if an affirmative offer decision was made, there would be a red carpet rollout. I think that is pretty commonplace for a lot of mid sized and large companies and has been for at least 15 years.
What I would see on entry level recruiting was that a person in a protected class might have a GPA a full point below most cutoffs, yet would have like 8 offers. The grievance peddlers are very detached from reality.
Sadly, this hurts minorities too though. Smaller companies can be afraid to hire them because of they aren't a good candidate and need to be fired they now have to worry about a discrimination lawsuit.
Small businesses and startups generally can't afford to play the virtue signaling game. There's too much at stake to be wasting even pennies. And that's also why early stage startups are often accused of being sexist "bro cultures".
If I'm a startup and can only afford to hire 5 programmers, I'm going to hire the best I can get. If they happen to be 3 white dudes, and 2 Asian dudes, I'm going with it. Trying to "diversify" at such early stages of a company could potentially mean business suicide.
Big companies love this shit though because it's a net positive for business. Once you already have a critical amount of skilled engineers, adding in a few sub-par ones in the name of diversity won't impact your product too much and it'll get your on the right side of the press.

I've actually heard a smart investor comment how he had made a good amount of money shorting companies that tout diversity because then you are no longer focused on the customer, but instead on some imagined quota. Get woke, go broke.
I believe there's a threshold for how many quota employees a big company can hire before starting to see a significant decrease in performance. It's a balancing game to find that sweet spot where they're performance is stable and their PR is on good terms.
If it were truly the case that any woke hiring were so bad for business as to go broke, very few companies would be doing it. The fact that most big companies do this is a telling sign. In general, if they're doing it, it means it's a net positive for business. Unless you believe companies truly care so much about diversity they actually put it before profits.
I think the people involved in diversity quotas may not care about profits. In the long run it will ruin the company, it may take a while, but will happen. The thing is, there is no satisfying them and they will want more and more diversity until they just start to eat each other like the left does.

Never been a better time for art in the corporate world than right now. Doesn't mean jobs are easy to get but there are more than ever before. Depending where you are in Tennessee, there may or may not be any. Most of these kinds of jobs are going to be in large cities, even if many of them are part work from home or full time. So remember that - just bc you have skill and experience doesn't mean you're gonna find a job if you live in a small rural town. There is unfortunately a balance that has to take place when having most modern careers vs. wanting to live a rural life. It's certainly possible but you need to be realistic. Clearly, there will be more opportunity in a Dallas or New York or Vegas or Atlanta than there will be in a Lincoln or Tucson or Spearfish. Essentially, yeah maybe you wanna live in Grand Junction but after a year of no graphic art jobs, it's time to look to Denver, or SLC.
That said, keep your head up because there really are opportunities out there for long careers in design. While you wait to find a job, keep creating. If you don't know what to do (you need to figure out this "skill" (drive) if you haven't already), then pick random companies and pretend you're hired as a graphic artist on a marketing campaign and create. Pretend t_d.win just hired you for a marketing campaign and create, just to keep your skill and your creativity sharp. Keep progressing on youtube learning extra skills, maybe learn another program. Maybe dip your toes into video prod/editing and/or After Effects. Maybe get into 3D if you're more into design, or a sketchup and do more technical creative. Maybe go old school and get into watercolor or oil paints, etc. Just keep creating and honing your technique and improving your artistic VISION. This will make having an updated portfolio easy (make sure you have one updated online at the ready if you're looking for a job!!!) and will keep you on your toes when the opportunity presents itself.
