It's called a use of force continuem. The fact that there are uniformed service members there with riot gear speaks volumes. At this stage, they don't need weapons against "peaceful protests". This is a chess game.

That said, just because they are not holding weapons does not mean weapons are not there. This issue would be resolved in minutes if it got out of hand. Trust our military leaders

Hard to trust Esper with the way he went outside his chain of command the other day

It's a chess game friend. Sometimes you can't tell people the truth, you must show them.

Wonder if Esper's statement of no guns was to egg the terrorists to DC and away from other targets.

Trust the captains and SNCOs on the ground who’ll be the ones directing response to any problems.

We do have the "non-lethal" devices you describe. The reason the soldiers are not armed is so an overzealous 18 year old does not kill a protester. Yes we are different than China - these people are trying to keep protesters's safe and the White House secure from rioters. Tank man was not run over by the tank @Tienanmen Square.

Are you for real? The national guard killing anyone ended at Kent State. They are trained to control crowds without weapons that kill. They use tear gas, pepper spray, smoke, packets of balls that explode.

Killing Protesters is a USA tradition, going back to at least the Anti Draft Riots in Baltimore, MD just before "Lincoln's War"

Tradition? Give me a break... You're reaching back pretty far to run that narrative. Show me a governing authority that has not committed that sin and I will show you one that has rewritten history.

I could go back further; but I leave it thus; to each his view.
