They don't. You are only allowed to do they things they think are good. Use a straw? No. Say the N-word? No. Drive you own car, instead of taking a bus? No. Go to church? Eat meat? No. Use facts in an argument? No.
Some liberals are more honest about how much they want to control others, and some are more "woke" and more strict in how such controls should be carried out.
They used to throw the word "tolerance" out a lot, to pretend they just wanted acceptance. Now, they want to force ideas down people's throats.

I absolutely reject abortion after the start of the 5th month, because that's when the brain starts to develop. Before that, the fetus is not an individual. After that, I believe aborting a child should legally be considered murder.
I support gun ownership, but also have no issues restricting civilians to hand-portable firearms, because civilians won't be fighting open battles if we ever really need to defend ourselves from the government.
