I was watching a filmed conversation between Dave Chapelle and Maya Angelou (yup, it really happened). Maya Angelou was talking about knowing both MLK Jr and Malcom X. Despite MLK Jr.'s legacy, apparently at the time, people were calling him Tom. So, I'd say any conservative black Americans being called this... well, you're in good company.
