That's correct. Then Reagan fell into line and delivered amnesty. Funny how that happens. He had good intentions but got controlled. Trump on the other hand.....

Then look at what the 1974 Congress did - and who did it.
Then look at the fall of Saigon, the aftermath in the country not here, the boat people crisis.

Realize the “New left” had been chanting for those people to win since 1968.
Now realize before Reagan there was basically no pushback on any of that. During Reagan Dem leaders conspired with the Soviets against him, backed the Sandinistas, and had Gorbasms for Gorbachev.
When Tianamen happened, Bush pere did nothing.
We can see the dynamic explicitly on this site. As soon as the left makes inroads into something, conservatives abandon ship.
They're currently bragging about having decamped from cities, and tuned out from professional sports. (Thus ceding them to the left voluntarily.)
They also brag on other days about their flight from pop culture and the universities. (Giving those away.)
They abandon businesses that get captured, websites, public bureaucracies, and on and on. (Each one a voluntary donation to the left's asset column.)
And every time they do it they declare victory! Lots of talk about how the abandoned position or institution is unimportant, destined to fail, we can do without it, the grapes are sour anyway, etc.
No one in the whole history of conflict has ever won by retreating. Victory requires taking the offensive.
Recovery of lost territory should be the goal, not making due with less. Until we make that shift of mindset we're goners.
Television created the opportunity to consolidate narrative into a central authority. Any time the one ring is forged, it must be fought to be destroyed. The internet has helped to rip the consolidated narrative apart again.

This is why the Federal government was supposed to be weak, not the enormous bureaucrstic monstrocity it is today. We need to shut them all down and repeal the 16th Amendment. Then repeal the 17th Amendment so states can prevent it from happening again.
