This reminds me of some book I read years ago. Something about there was political revolt of some sort. All the people with military police experience are told to bring all their guns to the nearest American Legion.

The main character arrived at one but had a bad feeling and left. Shortly after all of legions were blown up with them went all the weapons and combat experience.

Seemed like something that would actually happen in a fucked up dystopia
