The conditioning continues to this day: on Jeopardy the other day, one category had a clue about the Communist Manifesto, with a rosy-sounding quote, and then the next clue was about McCarthy and how he was obviously crazy for thinking Commies had infiltrated the gov't.
McCarthy really does need to be a larger part of the meme war. He was one of their very first victims of media based assassination once he got too close to their core power structures. They didn't care much about the revelations and purges until he got to education and hollywood. That's when the long knives came out since that was the key to their ultimate takeover by indoctrinating the children's minds and corrupting general culture. As they say politics are downstream from culture and if you get the culture to accept something then it can be made into law later.
