Forgot to mention the whole truth. Let's be honest. It's because he was black. Not out looting with the homies. A white kid doing the same wouldn't get shit except probably shot, beat, or stabbed.

Did you see those white girls getting called racist for cleaning up riot graffiti?

This is a feel good story, so why knock it? Yeah sure plenty of great kids serve others and don’t get cars. That doesn’t make their service any less meaningful. There are things hidden in this life, but are not unnoticed.

So what? Don’t bring race into a story that doesn’t need that dimension. This is Americans helping each other. That’s all.

The story and reward is entirely about race though. I've helped people before, never got a car and scholarship out of the deal. This man is a good man but the reward far outweighs what he accomplished and you know it. You know this is public because the media wants our perception of race to change.

That’s entirely fair but I don’t know how else we can inspire people to get away from the race batting bullshit.

You know, this might not be the only instance of this kind of thing happening & those people being rewarded for their service to their community (& I’d bet it’s not). Is it not very possible the media chose to cover this specific instance, because he’s black? I think it’s likely there are many people who are helping one another out after this shit tears through their towns. The media won’t tell you about them all. They’d love to pick & choose to report a click-bait feel-good story based on race.

Never the less, this young man did a good & difficult service & I’m okay with people having an attitude of gratitude towards such community pride.
