OG Trek, up through I'd say Voyager, was fantastic. Meritocracy, equality without equity, order and discipline...good shit. It definitely pushed a message of diversity...but it was diversity of origins with unity of purpose and cause. The oldschool "colorblind" vision of the future, where it was more important who you were rather than what. The lack of money was always a bit weird, as people definitely still had property (Kirk's bitchin' SF apartment, Picard's vineyard) and as far as I know the shows never did try to explain how that worked.

It would pose ethics bombs, but unlike anything made these days it would present both sides and make the choice anything but clear cut. Some exceptions...I remember one episode where Data thinks these stupid shitty floating vacuums are "his people" and becomes an RLM (robot lives matter) activist.
