Versus what alternative? Allowing yourself to be beaten, maimed, or worse? Seems like an easy choice.

I'm starting to think you are trolling. You act like you are trying to inform people to look at the laws in their states in order to know what is legally acceptable defense. However you continually overlook the fact that it is irrelevant what the law says in the situation that you fear great bodily harm, which may or may not result in death. You have no way to know before such an attack is over how badly you would be injured and that's even assuming that being injured at all by someone intentionally doesn't justify defending yourself with potentially deadly force.

I agree with that part of what you are saying. But If you live in a state where it's illegal to defend yourself, you still have to defend yourself. You should move though instead obviously.
