It doesn't help since you're expected to have decent internet in order to download day-one patches

Best bet is GOG.com which is the closest to legal DRM-free you can get. From the Polish studio of Witcher, Gwent and upcoming Cyberpunk.

The only drawback is many co-op games on there aren't on the same multiplayer server as Steam, so it would require friends to run the GOG edition as well. You can determine this quickly from reviews

Their GOG Galaxy beta client is outstanding: unifying the launch of games and their required launchers from Blizzard to Steam (around 15 platforms)
