Does the glorification of gang violence and drug use in rap have any effect on those behaviors by those who grow up listening to it?
The answer is obviously yes. I don't think these old cartoons glorify guns just because they're in there, but it's too easy to go to the opposite extreme and claim art never influences culture, but of course they do.
But those who end up committing gang violence are usually already those in those communities. Some suburban kid who likes listening to rap is more likely to start a shitty youtube rap career opposed to actually joining a gang and start shooting people up. I think the cases where someone acts out something like they guy who killed someone because he was inspired by Dexter, are extremely rare cases by people who already are mentally ill or are in a bad environment. I don't think its the fault of the artist or should they start acting like leaders of culture.
