It's even worse than that.. their reason was that Black people "bear the mark of Cain" indicated by Black skin. Joseph Smith hated Blacks. Therefore Blacks could not hold the priesthood, too unrighteous. But then, miraculously, word from God through the president prophet of the church ( due to public pressure) Black men can hold the priesthood now! Wow! Just like that! Remember, a Romney was prez of the Mormon church for a long long time. I was a member at that time. But after I found out how their eternal marraige through the temple applies to women, I left.
