He tried to get rid of rules that protected bad public school teachers from getting fired but the public service unions ran campaigns against him and he lost those battles. He also had to deal with a Democrat super majority in the state legislature, so the only way to get conservative measures passed was through the voter-initiated ballot propositions.

The depth of his submission when he lost is what bothered me. He never fought the left again in his life.
