Of course I hustled out of the way as did the others near me, and as I'm getting away I see the guy right next to me turn around and punch a horse right in the face. I'll never forget both the horse and the cop riding it gave the guy a puzzled look like 'seriously dude?'
Horses, especially trained cop horses are amazing at crowd control. Seen them in New Orleans Mardi Gras. A group would circle an incident and then do a side step knocking people out of the way and clearing the circle for foot cops
Worked in the quarter for 9 years. During the daytime I got witness a cop call for back up. It literally sounded like the cavalry coming. You could hear the horses at a gallop coming down the street.
Or giraffes, i saw a video of a dude harassing one and it just picked the dude up with his mouth and tossed him like a sack of potatoes. Image training them to act as a people crane and just walk up and pick up the person out of a crowd that is being a problem.
I’ve lately thought the one tool missing from these riot-control incidents is bayonets, or pikes, if you don’t like rifles, which were after all, the origins of bayonets.
