I was looking at jobs recently in my area and the bottom of the barrel government customer service jobs...where you just answer the phone, answer questions about department policy, and mail requested documents...things any other private sector job pays 10-15 an hour for...but government pays 39-49K....
Why the hell is anyone getting near 50k to do the job a 16 year old high schooler can do???
The average federal worker earns over $110k in total compensation, nearly 2x as much as the typical American. They lie and mislead us by trying to exclude the incredibly generous benefits and only focus on salary.
What's even worse, the more educated you are, the less you make in government with respect to the private sector. That means government employment is a magnet for stupid people and people with no risk tolerance.
In short, a double income federal family is a top 5% household in terms of total compensation. Yet, they produce no economic activity, only reduce our productivity and reduce our wealth.

Not Chicago's Financial District, not Connecticut and the Wall St types, not Hollywood, or Silicon Valley, or all the other great places in America. The richest Americans live near D.C.

The federal workers unions had gov't IT limited to requiring no more than a six character password changed only every 90 days till just a few years ago. We couldn't even require two factor authentication.
50K is nothing. When I was a gov't contractor, I reported to people in Virginia and DC making low to mid six figures before the gold plated gov't benefits and every single one was useless. Once it became more than obvious they were useless, they'd disappear and end up working in another agency.
