After moving to the United States, she was shocked by the level of poverty and decided to abandon software engineering. She pursued studies in economics because of what she described as her own "questions of economic inequality". She entered the economics program at North Carolina State University where she earned a PhD. Her dissertation was titled Elderly Labor Supply in a Rural, Less Developed Economy. Sawant moved to Seattle in 2006 and became a Socialist Alternative party member.

You don't just move to the US. But, the US keeps importing leftists who despise the US.

The women, for som reason, especially despise the country that let them in.

The Indian population essentially consists of different “tribes” with very little intermarriage even when they live next to each other for centuries. In contrast, Han Chinese people are practically genetic clones. If you are a high cast Indian, it is a lot easier to come to the US and care for the oppressed rather than challenge the deeply-rooted discrimination in your own country. We don’t have have a race of untouchables in our mist.

I'm a BritBong and I've lived in India and the USA.

I was shocked by the poverty in both (and in some areas of the UK)

One difference was shopkeepers in India will try to maximize what they charge you.

In Atlanta I went into the downtown area and the three black guys working in the clothing store wouldn't even acknowledge my presence, despite me being the only customer, and I left empty handed.

In the USA if you're poor, it is because you choose to be poor, as the opportunity to be anything else is abundant if you don't mind working for it.

Poverty is a cultivated mindset and result of bad decisions.

I work and I’m friends with many people from India. I’ve travelled there many times. Poverty in India IS poverty - no sanitation, starvation, no food, no schools, beggars missing limbs because they are removed by mob bosses to garner more money from tourists, people bathing, washing, and drinking contaminated water. Any of them would do anything for the ‘poverty’ level in the US.

India has very rich sections and beautiful areas as well. Cities can be nice and there are gated communities but a clear separation between rich/middle class and poverty in the rural areas.

Very interesting. Member when Yuri Bezmenov told the story of how he had an assignment in India, and decided to defect after the local "useful idiots" he befriended and encouraged to help overthrow the government were the first to be put to the wall when the new regime took over? I member that.

>From the Wikipedia article on Yuri Bezmenov: (Note: the "citation needed" Leftist-media sidestepping is merely ignoring that much of this material is based on Bezmenov's writings, and the "Deception Was My Job" video interviews, 2hrs15mins. )

...Bezmenov spent two years in India working as a translator and public relations officer with the Soviet economical aid group Soviet Refineries Constructions, which built refinery complexes.

Bezmenov was recalled to Moscow... soon discovered that about three quarters of Novosti's staffers were actually KGB officers, with the remainder being "co-optees" or KGB freelance writers and informers like himself. However, Bezmenov did no real freelance writing; rather, he edited and planted propaganda materials in foreign media and accompanied delegations of Novosti's guests from foreign countries on tours of the Soviet Union or to international conferences held in the Soviet Union.

After several months, Bezmenov was forced to be an informer while still maintaining his position as a Novosti journalist. He then used his journalistic duties to help gather information and to spread disinformation to foreign countries for the purposes of Soviet propaganda and subversion.

...once again assigned to Bila in 1969, this time as a Soviet press-officer and a public relations agent for the KGB. He continued Novosti's propaganda efforts in New Delhi, working out of the Soviet embassy. Bezmenov was directed to slowly but surely establish the Soviet sphere of influence in India. In the same year, a secret directive of the Central Committee opened a new secret department in all embassies of the Soviet Union around the world, titled the "Research and Counter-Propaganda Group." Bezmenov became a deputy chief of that department, which gathered intelligence from sources like Indian informers and agents, on influential or politically significant citizens of India.

Those politicians who favoured Soviet expansionist policy into India were promoted to higher positions of power, affluence, and prestige through various KGB/Novosti operations. Those who refused to cooperate with Soviet plans were the target of character assassination in the media and press.

Bezmenov stated that he was also **instructed not to waste time with idealistic leftists, as these would become disillusioned, bitter, and adversarial when they realized the true nature of Soviet Communism.**To his surprise, he discovered that many such were listed for execution once the Soviets achieved control.

During that period, increasingly seeing the Soviet system as insidious and ruthless, Bezmenov began careful planning to defect.

I'm convinced that interview he did was just his way of bragging that they'd already won, and we still hadn't realized.
