Exactly. I remember being a little kid about 6 years old in the '70s. I was riding shotgun with my grandfather, running apples into the cold storage warehouse. The guy running the ticker tries to short my grandpa on weight, gets cocky with my grandpa. This is a man who fought in WW2 and Korea, a Ranger of the 116th. my grandpa gets out and puts a beating on this man. That was the first time I ever witnessed violence like that. My grandfather makes the man write down the correct weight, gets back in the truck, and takes the haul in. on the way back he told me you can't let other men walk over you or the whole world will start walking over you, you have to fight, no matter what, even if it costs you dearly.
This. We had a shitty Iranian neighbor and needed to replace a section of shared fence that was falling apart due to age and also his kids kicking it. My wife talked with him and he agreed to split the cost, which was something like $150. We get it replaced and suddenly he’s never around. My wife resorts to leaving a note in their mailbox, no response.
It’s only $75 but fuck, it’s the principle of the thing, so I go next door and knock and wait. He finally answers because he can tell I’m not going away. The conversation quickly goes south when he says he never agreed to pay anything and calls my wife a liar. The heated exchange leads to him calling her a cunt, and my wife immediately starts begging me not to beat the shit out of him. Her pleading was the ONLY reason I stopped myself from rearranging his face.
