Yes and I have jumped down the root rabbit hole on a few of my devices including the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 I'm on now. You can also overclock it or make it really stingy on battery power which is awesome... The problem is if your phone is a bit obscure you probably won't find a root solution much less a rom for it. Unless of course you do it yourself which is beyond me at this point without bricking my device. Still, it's the best thing going now I reckon.

Yes you have to check the XDA Developers forum to make sure there are current roms available (which means there is a current root)
