I’m a 20-something millennial who has been in NYC for all my life (excluding college). Around 2012, everything seemed to be deteriorating. I’m sure it was mostly because of people moving in from different states, but it seemed things were on the rise just a few years before.
Can anyone build on this idea or share any anecdotes?
Lifelong Brooklynite here. I moved out nearly 2 years ago. Best thing I ever did. We moved out due to the schools. I could write pages about it, but suffice it to say they are awful. I'd say NYC has been in a downward spiral since Bloomberg's second term. His first term he basically continued what Guiliani had done. It's pretty much what he got elected on. But it went downhill after. DiBlasio put it into freefall. Everyone hated him, including democrats, but they voted him back in anyway. I couldn't even get coherent reasons from my lefty friends as to why they were voting for someone they thought was terrible. Just the NPC mentality I guess.
In any event, we moved to Suffolk County. It's much better there. Though most of my family moved to Arizona and I'd really love to go there. People are super nice. No state taxes. No crazy government agendas. The troubling thing for my family there is that it's been discovered and they are getting lots of LA and NYC people escaping their shitholes, yet trying to turn their new home into the same shithole they ran away from. Crazy leftist mentality on display.
