That's what everybody thought about the guy who was seen on video getting smashed over the head repetedly with a skateboard, and then kicked repeatedly in the head after he was on the ground, and looked like he'd been left for dead. Turned out he was okay.
I haven't seen any video that actually shows the statue hitting him, much less hitting him in the head. And he and/or other people may have broken its fall with their arms.
Let's not spread unconfirmed assumptions about things like this. Real information will come out soon enough.
I don't see it hitting anybody squarely in the head. Looks like a couple of people may have gotten hit as they were trying to dart away from the oncoming statue. Not at all clear if they took hard hits, or any hits at all. What's clear is that the girls sitting up high on the monument suddenly look panicked and horrified, but there's a pretty long delay between that and the part where you first see the statue tumbling past or into a couple of people's heads.
I very much doubt anyone was killed by getting hit in the head while they were standing. What happened when the statue hit the ground was not visible, but was the most likely to cause critical injury or death. If somebody who fell down trying to avoid the falling statue, or was knocked down as it fell, may have already been on the ground when gravity finished with the statue. Getting one's head or chest crushed between the falling statue and the presumably concrete or asphalt ground covering, could certainly have been fatal, though probably not immediately.
They did not block EMS. Look at the video, where some of the protestors up high are gesturing wildly to people to clear the area around the injured person. Also, several reports from the scene said the immediate area around the injured person had been blocked off with police crime tape, though protestors were still in the immediate vicinity.

The terrorists' anti-police dogma evaporates mighty quickly when one of their own is seriously injured.
