I had a conversation with a dealer today in person and he said other dealers are jacking up prices while they are having a 20 percent markdown on most firearms. Supply in demand is just not being able to get a firearm in stock such as Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 for example. They were willing to get it for me at their cost but said I would have to wait. Virginia Beach is a good place to shop right now.
I really don’t believe that story but even if it is true, don’t you think there’d have a great reason to tell you about those nasty ‘other dealers’ but yes you should absolutely trust them and they can even get you a deal?
Fucks sake people are so gullible.
Fuckin numbers don’t lie but people do. It’s supply and demand, and you failed the ‘rhetorical question’ portion of the quiz today.
I usually have the website pulled up on my phone, show them the model number and MSRP on the manufacturer's website and I can generally get one only marked up the shipping cost. Be informed!
I wouldn’t order you shit at cost as a business owner, unless you agreed to purchase ancillary items from me. Sure I’ll get you a gun for cost if you buy a fuckton of ammo, extra mags and accessories from me for it. The type of person to walk into a store and demand something for the MSRP is also the type of person to not do that and instead buy everything they can as cheap as they can online and from China.
Whoa there. I never demand that someone sell me for MSRP or cost. I show them the website so they know what model I want, which includes the price. If the manufacturer is saying $300 is their suggested price you can make a better informed buying decision and you are less likely to be taken advantage of by someone who is overcharging. You're also less likely to get ripped off by a store owner who knows you have an idea of what you should be paying.
I'm more than happy to pay extra markup to buy and support local business and also buy extra accessories as well. Not everyone is doing that though. If you're going to a chain store especially, there's no reason to overpay.
OP was saying beware of price gouging, I was just suggesting some ways you can help protect yourself from being ripped off.
It's not price gouging it is basic Supply and Demand. Econ 101 type shit.
Gun inventories a low in most places in the country. Therefore store owners are not selling there customary volume. They still have rent and bill to pay, so they get it where they can, by raising the prices of what they have.
If you don't want it, don't buy it. Besides, prices will drop after the CWII.
I think price gouging refers to raising the price on essentials (water, food, medication, etc) that a person will die without during an emergency. Guns are arguably essential, but you're not going to definitely die in three days without one. If I could find an AR anywhere I'd pay twice the regular price.
Is it price gouging or supply and demand?
Asking for a friend.
This is why you don't wait to buy a gun until everyone wants them.

Yeah bro the gun shop you went to is the real swindler. You got had.
Why did I get swindled? I know the MSRP $580. S&W M&P 2.0 for less than $459 and I will kiss your ass. Two weeks out.
There are no guns in Los Angeles. Stores are empty.
No, I’m quite sure there are lots of guns in LA. 😉
Oh yes there are... They're just not for sale at he moment.
Not true, just got a Glock today.

Those without guns can fight CWII with swords and makeshift electrical weapons.

I agree also but First Time buyers should be well informed.
There are honest dealers and there is the other kind. You can find out with just a half an hour which one is which.
ghost gun parts and tools have been relatively level.
IF you can get them.
Looks to me, just browsing gunbroker.com, like prices are up quite a bit.
