One talking point I keep hearing the liberals say when someone complains about destroying history is "all of those confederate monuments were installed during the civil rights era!". This monument was erected in 1866, the Lee monument in Richmond was unveiled in 1890. As the monuments come down I'm seeing a pattern of very much postwar monuments being torn down. For fun I looked up the list of courthouse monuments in Virginia of which there are 54. There's only 3 that were erected past the very early 1900's, of those only 1 was erected in the 1960's, the other 2 were erected in the 90's. There was one other that was rededicated in the 1960's, but it was originally erected in 1899.
That actually makes sense, that'll be something nice to correct someone with the next time they try to say they went up during the civil rights era. Thanks.

I think they mean the Jim Crow era. They believe these statues were erected to intimidate black people post-Reconstruction.
