Prior to the incident the Mayor defended the lack of police response to the vandalism by saying the statue was "just a piece of rock."

But look what happens when you let a violent mob tear down a piece of rock in chaotic fashion. If he lives, this man should sue the mayor, the police, and the city. They signed off on this anarchy.
