I am serving right now and can tell you that some may "just follow orders" but the vast majority wouldn't. As for those on the fence, If they see the NCO core refuse the officers I am pretty sure they will side with the NCOs. It is the people they are close to and work with everyday. Unfortunately the split is divided among racial lines. not always but mostly.
I am both a vet and still work with the military, I've noticed a pretty disturbing trend recently. Junior enlisted thinking "China virus" is racist, officer corps saying the riots are the result of microaggressions. Dunno.
