It’s weird that Republicans now sometimes also fly the Confederate flag. The Democrats seceded, but now the Right is fighting to keep Confederate monuments. It makes no sense to me.

As I southerner, I can say it's complicated and people will jump in with negativity, but simplifying the Civil War to "slavery" is incorrect. It was about more than that. It was also about State's Rights. I'm sure there are plenty of bigots who sly it because they ARE racists and they think that's what it stands for. It might for them; but it represented independence. When you think of the thousands and thousands of men fighting, I'm sure 98% of them never had a slave, possibly had never even seen a Black person. It was about their entire way of life. But yeah, these days, everything gets a one word hashtag. It is a part of history.Remember the KKK was democrats; and the North, broadly speaking, did not throw out the welcome mat to Blacks moving to look for a better life there. History is complicated.
